Actor Jiiva loses his cool, says sexual abuse does not happen in Kollywood; Chinmayi takes him to task

Tamil actor Jiiva is under fire after he got into a fight with a journalist at an event in Tamil Nadu’s Theni. According to India Today And Hindustan TimesJiiva denied any cases of sexual harassment in the Tamil film industry and avoided answering questions about the Hema Commission report that exposed cases of exploitation in Mollywood. He later lost his cool with a reporter.

When Jiiva was initially asked about the Hema committee report, he said he had “heard about it too.” “We had #MeToo part 1 and now part 2 has come. Now people are calling them (abusers) by their names openly. That is wrong. We should have a healthy atmosphere in cinema,” the actor added.

When pressed further, Jiiva refused to answer questions in order to maintain a ‘good atmosphere’ at the event. “We are here for a good event, so let’s say good things. I have come to Theni after a long time. I have come here after shooting for a film called Thenavattu. There is a lot going on in many industries. Your job is to gather news. Our job is to maintain a good atmosphere. As actors, we bring smiles on the faces of many people, and that’s why we have come here,” he stressed.

After the publication of the Hema Commission report, many cases of sexual abuse in the Malayalam film industry came to light. It also threw light on how those holding powerful positions in the industry were constantly harassing female actors, junior artists and technicians.
