WC SAPS dismisses allegations that officers at Delft police station were extorted as fake news

CAPE TOWN – Western Cape police say social media posts alleging extortion of officers at the Delft police station are fake.

A video is circulating on social media showing an extortion mafia demanding protection money from the police stationed at the police station.

There is fear in some communities in the province due to the many deadly extortion incidents.

Western Cape police spokesperson Novela Potelwa said no one would extort money from the police.

“The South African Police Service in the Western Cape wishes to warn social media users against spreading unverified information. The claims are debunked as fake news. The Delft police station will remain operational without such demands being made,” Potelwa said.
