#Holler against human trafficking | Alberton Record

Human trafficking is a heartbreaking crisis that casts a dark shadow over our global community. According to the United Nations, human trafficking is the recruitment, transportation, transfer, harbouring or receipt of persons, by means of threat, force or other forms of coercion for the purpose of exploitation.

It is a form of modern slavery, where victims often become victims of sexual exploitation, forced labor or organ removal.

In South Africa, Gauteng is the province with the highest number of human trafficking cases, followed by KwaZulu-Natal, with the Northern Cape having the least number of cases. In 2021 alone, approximately 400 victims of human trafficking were identified in the 79 human trafficking prosecutions pending in the courts.

Traffickers prey on the financially vulnerable, such as people living in poverty, who are unemployed or homeless.

#Holler was launched in August 2021 on International Women’s Day at Mall of the South to raise awareness about gender-based violence (GBV). This year, #Holler 2024 is dedicated to raising awareness and educating the public about human trafficking. We are proud to support Home of Hope for Girls, a non-profit organization that provides a safe haven for children and teens experiencing abuse, particularly situations related to child sex trafficking and GBV.

We invite the community to join us on September 8th for the #Holler 2024 event. Limited seats will be available to the public on a first come, first served basis. Live streaming on the day will be available via The Mall of the South Facebook page.

We are asking our community to #Holler against human trafficking and support this mission by donating the following wishlist items to the Home of Hope for Girls
