Rome anti-crime priest victim of ‘mafia attack’ – General News

A priest who has spent years fighting crime and drug trafficking in Rome has been the victim of a mafia-style attack, Lazio security official Luisa Regimenti said on Tuesday, expressing solidarity with the cleric.


Don Antonio Coluccia, 49, born in Lecce, was the victim of “a violent mafia attack” in Rome’s working-class Quarticciolo district, where he was leading a march against crime, she said.


Father Coluccia has been under police escort for several years because of his fight against drug trafficking in the suburbs of the Italian capital, in dangerous neighborhoods such as Tor Bella Monaca.
