Australian National Review – Sactuary City: Police sources say illegal immigrants make up 75% of arrests in Midtown NYC

Migrants arrive at the Roosevelt Hotel in New York, which serves as the main processing center.

New York City has embraced its sanctuary city status and even bragged about it. But its desire to put a woke agenda above its citizens has had devastating real-world consequences for New Yorkers.

Police sources shared shocking details with The New York Post, revealing that an estimated 75% of people arrested in Midtown Manhattan in recent months for crimes such as assault, robbery and domestic violence have been immigrants.

Sanctuary City’s laws hamper police, who are not allowed to cooperate with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) on cases involving suspects suspected of being in the country illegally.

And often illegal immigrants are quickly released back onto the streets.

From the Post:

“New York City has eliminated a tool to get rid of violent criminals. What a mess,” Jim Quinn, a veteran former prosecutor with the Queens District Attorney’s Office, told The Post.

“The sanctuary city law is pathetic. It’s disgusting. It’s insane.”

Making matters worse, police sources say, word has spread in the shelters about the city’s laxity on bail, meaning migrants know they’ll be quickly thrown back onto the streets after being picked up.

Gateway Pundit reported on illegal immigrants from local shelters forming “Wolfpack gangs” to intimidate and rob citizens.

While a large percentage of crimes committed by illegal aliens are classified as “domestic incidents” or petty theft, other crimes are much more heinous, such as violent sexual assaults.

Many illegal immigrants don’t seem to fear arrest, knowing that New York’s soft approach to crime and failed Less is More (no bail) law will likely put them back on the streets quickly.

The “Less is More” Act was signed into law in 2021 by New York’s far-left Governor Kathy Hochul.

The Less is More Act gives more clemency to parolees and removes grounds for putting parolees back behind bars; according to The Post, “it removes technical parole violations, such as being late for an appointment, missing a curfew or finding alcohol or drugs in a urine sample. And the bill would speed up the time frame for judicial review of violations.”

As a result, repeat offenders are quickly released so they can continue their criminal activities.

Perpetrators like Alexander Ayala, 24, who was among the migrants charged in an attack on two NYPD officers, were charged with two counts of assault and one count of obstruction of justice after the violent incident. They were released on “supervision.”

In August, Ayala was arrested again and charged with identity theft and possession of stolen property. He was again released on his own recognizance.

Yohenry Brito, 24, was also involved in the violent confrontation with police officers and was released, but was arrested again on serial theft charges.

Midtown isn’t the only neighborhood where crimes committed by illegal immigrants are on the rise.

In Queens, sources tell The Post, the figure is closer to 60% of those arrested are illegal immigrants.

A court clerk at the Queens Criminal Courthouse told The Post: “Come on Monday! Almost every case is a migrant.”

Congresswoman Nicole Malliotakis (R-NY) shared some of the most disturbing crimes committed by illegal immigrants in her state in recent months, which she rightly attributes to Kamala Harris.
