Ektaa Kapoor speaks out about workplace bullying and women in power

What’s the story?

Producer Ektaa R Kapoor recently addressed the issue of harassment in the workplace, stressing the importance of women being in positions of power to create a safer work environment.

Her comments come in response to the Hema Justice Commission report, which addressed sexual exploitation in the Malayalam film industry.

Kapoor spoke at the trailer launch of her upcoming production, The Buckingham Murders.

‘Women must take initiative’

Kapoor said: “(In) many places we need women at the top to lead companies. And for that, women also need to take the initiative.”

“There needs to be a conscious effort to create a safe environment for women in every workplace. A large part of this will be women leading professional jobs.”

Kapoor’s comments on Mollywood MeToo

The Hema Justice Commission report has led to a controversy in Mollywood, with several female actors coming forward with allegations of sexual harassment against prominent figures.

Kapoor stressed, “Women and their safety is not just an industry issue; it is an issue in every woman’s workplace. Many women now need to lead so that many women can join forces.”

Kapoor’s upcoming film is an example of the power of women

Kapoor’s upcoming film, The Buckingham Murdersis a crime story solved by a female cop.

She called this an example of women’s power, saying, “Two female producers coming together to make a film about a crime story (solved) by a female cop is also an example of creating a kind of power.”

‘Men are also responsible,’ says director Hansal Mehta

Director Hansal Mehta, who was present at the trailer launch, echoed Kapoor’s sentiments.

He stressed that men also have a responsibility to ensure safety and address the problem head-on.

The Buckingham Murders will be in theaters from September 13 and will be played by Kareena Kapoor Khan.
