Child pornography charges land British Columbia man in jail for 10 months

A British Columbia man has been sentenced to 10 months in prison after pleading guilty to possession of child pornography.

Scott Harrison, 51, pleaded guilty to the offence last year in provincial court in New Westminster, where he lives.

Police say they began investigating Harrison in 2019 after learning that a local resident was posting child pornography online.

He was sentenced on August 26.

New Westminster police are advising parents to educate themselves on ways they can protect their children from online sexual abuse.

“Behind every image of child sexual abuse is a real child. It is our duty to expose this form of exploitation. We typically make this recommendation at the start of the school year, and that is to double-check your privacy settings on social media and talk to children about how to stay safe online,” Sgt Andrew Leaver said in a statement.
