Blinken heads to Haiti as security forces crack down on gangs

US Secretary of State Antony Blinken travels to Haiti this week to discuss a possible political transition for the violence-plagued Caribbean country, as an international security service battles criminal gangs that have taken over the capital, Port-au-Prince.

Blinken to meet Haiti’s prime minister on Thursday Garry Conille and senior members of the multinational security assistance missions authorized by the United Nations, who will then hold meetings in the Dominican Republic on Friday, State Department spokesman Matthew Miller said Wednesday.
