ORGANIZATIONAL CONTEXT:

The current hurricane season is expected to be above normal, with an expected range of 17 to 25 named storms (winds of 39 mph or greater). Of these storms, 8 to 13 are expected to intensify into hurricanes (winds of 74 mph or greater), including 4 to 7 major hurricanes (Category 3, 4, or 5, with winds of 111 mph or greater).

Hurricane Beryl made landfall in the southern Caribbean on Monday, July 1, as a Category 4 hurricane, battering Barbados, Grenada, St. Vincent and the Grenadines, and Tobago. Beryl continued up the Caribbean, making landfall in Jamaica on July 3 as a strong Category 4 hurricane and in the Cayman Islands on July 4 as a Category 3 hurricane.

Beryl has left a trail of destruction across the affected islands. Life-threatening winds, heavy rains and strong storm surges have damaged infrastructure and disrupted transport, agriculture, tourism, health and telecommunications sectors in the affected countries.

At this level, work is performed under minimal supervision. Job holders are expected to produce organized and accurate technical work and reports. They may provide guidance on standard practices to other personnel and colleagues in their area of ​​work.

PURPOSE OF THE JOB:

To provide reliable, efficient and safe driving services of authorized personnel and/or goods while providing business support to ensure the smooth running of the organization’s operations in Belize. This position reports to the Head of Belize Satellite Office or designated person.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES (not all-inclusive nor exhaustive):

Director

  • Ensure safe and efficient transportation of authorized personnel and goods, complying with UN and government safety and security regulations, including basic translation services.
  • Assist officials and visitors with visa and customs formalities to ensure a safe and smooth arrival.
  • Maintain accurate vehicle logs and report mechanical status to supervisor for efficient utilization and cost effectiveness.
  • Ensure assigned vehicle and equipment are clean and well maintained. Report any problems to supervisor immediately so service can be performed safely and efficiently.
  • Follow the established rules and regulations for field deliveries and accidents. Report any problems immediately to the supervisor so that he can give instructions and make decisions.

Administrator Support

In addition to driving, you will perform basic office duties, such as:

  • Sort and distribute correspondence and other materials within specified time periods.
  • Assist in maintaining and organizing office files, documents and records in accordance with established systems and processes, so that employees have easy access to them.
  • Enter data accurately into appropriate systems, including supplier registration systems, to ensure information is well organized and readily available.
  • Provides support in coordinating meetings, events and travel arrangements.
  • Perform all other assigned tasks.

STANDARD MINIMUM ACADEMIC QUALIFICATIONS:

Education:

  • Completion of high school.
  • Valid driver’s license and clean driving record.

Experience:

  • Two or more years of experience as a driver, preferably in an international organization, embassy or UN system. Experience driving various makes and models of vehicles, including vans, trucks and other types of motorized vehicles.
  • Previous experience in driving and providing transportation services. Good knowledge of local roads and routes.
  • Experience with general administrative tasks.
  • Experience with defensive driving is desirable.

Knowledge and skills:

  • Knowledge of traffic regulations, driver and safety protocols, local routes and waterways, including but not limited to assessing the mechanical condition of the vehicle and performing minor repairs.
  • Knowledge of the vehicle’s loading capacity and other parameters.
  • Knowledge of boating rules and regulations, if applicable.
  • Excellent communication, organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to read and interpret safety rules, operating instructions and maintenance instructions, including but not limited to rules relating to fire extinguishers, floating portable safety equipment, emergency procedures and first aid.
  • Ability to demonstrate a customer-oriented approach, along with responsibility, courtesy and tact. Proficiency in using communication tools such as radios, email and telephones.
  • Knowledge of standard supporting business processes and procedures, including knowledge of common office software packages such as Microsoft Word and Excel, and the use of standard office equipment such as copiers and scanners.

Language:

Fluency (level C) in English.
