It was an absolute pleasure working with Maddy. She’s a longtime friend and one of the few women in EDM and an awesome one at that. I took organ lessons as a kid and have a deep love for piano so I naturally gravitate towards incorporating that into almost every beat I make. When I heard the beautiful piano at the beginning of this track I was instantly captivated and the hook just popped into my head as soon as the beat dropped. I’m so excited for this release! “’Run It Back’ emerged as the standout futuristic trap anthem on the record, featuring one of my favorite MCs on the record, DJ Paul from Three 6 Mafia. I’ve been dreaming of this collaboration ever since we worked together on the Cherub tour in 2018, just waiting for the perfect track to send him. When I started working on this project with Jason Leech, it started out as this beautiful piece with Jason’s keyboards as the central element. As the song evolved, I gradually reworked it into this gritty trap banger, and everything fell into place.” – Maddy O’Neal

Finally, the track builds again before swooping into its climatic final section – an epic conclusion that O’NealThe song’s signature future bass sounds, combined with fast violin and gospel backing vocals.

After playing a few shows together, Maddy and I discussed starting a new collaboration. She first sent me a heavy drum beat with an 808 bass and I laid down the keys you hear in the intro – early bones that evolved into the rest of the song.

I was blown away when Maddy told me DJ Paul was going to be on the track. This is the first time I’ve shared a project with an artist I’ve listened to since I was a kid. It’s a real mind trip to experience. Shout out to Maddy for helping me break through the matrix.” –Jason Leech
