A message from USU’s Title IX Coordinator

Editor’s Note: This message was sent to all students on September 5 by Cody Carmichael, USU’s Title IX Coordinator.

Hello, Aggies!

It is with great pleasure that I welcome you to a new academic year here at Utah State University. If you are joining us for another semester, we are excited to see you again. If you are new to USU, thank you for joining the Aggie family!

My name is Cody Carmichael and I am the Title IX Coordinator at USU. It is my responsibility to address any form of gender discrimination, including sexual misconduct, that may occur on any of our many campuses across the state. We strive to ensure that everyone has a positive experience here at USU and to achieve that goal, I want to emphasize university does not tolerate sexual misconduct in any form, including sexual harassment, domestic violence, sexual exploitation, assault or stalking.

USU is a place for personal growth, learning, and making lifelong friendships. The Office of Equity will do our part to ensure that sexual misconduct does not impact those ideals. To that end, USU promotes a strong reporting culture. We prioritize this to ensure that individuals who may have experienced sexual misconduct are connected with supporting measures to help them pursue their academic goals.

If you experience sexual misconduct, there are numerous, free on-campus resources available to you, including advocacy and counseling. You can find these resources and learn more about reporting options at sexualrespect.usu.edu.

If you would like to report sexual misconduct to the Office of Equity, you can do so online at equity.usu.edu/report, by email at [email protected], by visiting our main office on the 4th floor of the Distance Education Building on the Logan campus, or by calling 435-797-1266.

I cannot stress enough how dedicated our team is here at the Office of Equity. We all undergo regular training to ensure that we are prepared to provide you with supportive measures, conduct investigations, and help each individual understand what options are available to them through our processes.

Our Supportive Measures Specialists can help you address academic or safety concerns, assist you in accessing on- and off-campus resources, and explain how to file a formal complaint to obtain an informal resolution or a full investigation. Please know that You do not need to participate in a formal process to receive supportive measures.

USU strives to create a safe learning environment for each of you—one free from gender discrimination and sexual misconduct. It takes all of us to achieve this goal, and we hope that you will all participate in our university’s sexual misconduct prevention programs. I wish you all a successful school year.

Kind regards,

Cody Carmichael
