Kerala: Congress demands CM’s resignation

Thiruvananthapuram:The Congress intensified its protests in Kerala as party workers took out a massive march to the secretariat demanding the resignation of Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan following serious allegations levelled by ruling MP PV Anvar against senior police officials in the state.

The Congress has been in an uproar ever since Anvar levelled serious allegations against ADGP Law and Order MR Ajith Kumar, accusing him of phone tapping, conniving with gold smuggling gangs and involvement in murder cases. He also levelled serious allegations against the Chief Minister’s Political Secretary P Sasi, alleging that he was supporting police officers like Ajith Kumar, who are allegedly involved in various criminal activities.

Anvar met Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan and CPM state secretary MV Govindan and handed over separate memoranda to them, demanding action against the policemen.

During the opposition protest, PCC chairman K Sudhakaran slammed Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan and the Home Ministry, saying that the Chief Minister had lost his moral authority to continue in office due to the unchecked mafia activities that took place under his rule.

AICC Kerala General Secretary Deepa Dasmunshi said the Chief Minister is worried as his government is nearing its end. “Alarm bells are ringing,” she added. Meanwhile, Opposition leader VD Satheeshan accused the Chief Minister of behaving like a coward and alleged that gold smuggling gangs and several shady individuals are operating under the aegis of the Chief Minister’s office.

The Prime Minister is afraid to fire his political secretary and ADGP MR Ajith Kumar as he fears they will expose his misdeeds.

Despite facing serious allegations, Pinarayi Vijayan continues to serve, reportedly with the support of the BJP-led central government. He has alleged that the police have brutally attacked peaceful agitators. “The policemen who use brute force should remember that no ‘uncle’ can save them,” he noted.
