Kangana Ranaut: Beauty Among the Beasts

Kangana Runout is all over the news these days like a bad rash, there is just no escaping her interviews, statements and tweets. I find her very refreshing in these morbid days of rapes, lynchings, collapsed bridges, encounters, desertions and bankrupt states. What makes her statements vibrant is the fresh perspective she brings to whatever topic she decides to tackle.

Someone once said that we are all born ignorant, but we have to work hard to be ignorant. And no one can accuse the Himachali beauty of not working hard at it. She is a bit like the IAS — an expert on every subject; she has spoken on the US elections, history, Manipur, the farmer protests, the Delhi riots, the 2002 Gujarat massacre, nepotism, Bollywood, sexual exploitation, the caste census, censorship, the freedom movement, and other weighty subjects. And, in keeping with the best practices in the IAS these days, she is also a lateral entrant into Parliament!

She has even started dropping hints about her marriage, and our vacuous media, with no exit polls in sight, has started speculating about the wicketkeeper who could be responsible for the run-out. It is a little late for me to throw my hat into the arena, as I have already thrown my towel into another, but I do have a piece of advice for the gentleman — if you are the Encyclopedia Britannicasell it to the cabariwala; you don’t need it anymore because your wife knows everything. Same goes for Google search.
