Alleged attempted child enticement leads to charges against Welland man

A Welland man is facing charges after allegedly attempting to entice a child into sexual acts.

In August (2024), detectives from the Niagara Regional Police Internet Child Exploitation (ICE) Unit launched an investigation into individuals using the Internet to meet children for sexual purposes.

According to police, a man allegedly had online contact with someone he thought was a 14-year-old girl.

On Saturday (September 7), the suspect is said to have arrived at an agreed location with the intention of meeting the girl for sexual purposes.

Detectives waited at the scene and arrested the man without incident, police said.

Robert Darryl Davis, 59, of Welland is charged with:

• Luring a child through telecommunications to facilitate the commission of a criminal offence, namely sexual harassment.

Police believe Davis used the online aliases “Jim or Jimmy Wilson” and “Mike Wilson” to contact other children. They encourage anyone with information about these aliases to contact the Niagara Regional Police Service at 905-688-4111.

Following his arrest, Davis remains in custody and is scheduled to attend a bail hearing on September 8 at the Robert SK Welch Courthouse in St. Catharines.
