JAMMU, Sep 7: Brigadier Khuda Baksh Memorial Public Hr. Sec. School, in collaboration with District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) Jammu, organised an important programme for awareness and orientation of children on “POCSO” at Sahir Ludhianvi Cultural Hall of Gurjar Desh Charitable Trust (GDCT) Complex, Jammu.
The event was inaugurated with the ceremonial lighting of the lamp by Yashpal Sharma, Special Judge Fast Track (POCSO), Jammu, along with Guest of Honour Dr Samriti Sharma (Secretary DLSA) and Dr Trishi Gupta (Panel Lawyer DLSA), and Arshad Ali Choudhary, Chairman GDCT. During the ceremony, Choudhary presented mementos to the Guest of Honour and Guest of Honour in recognition of their efforts in the field of child welfare.
In his keynote address, Justice Sharma provided valuable insights into the prevention of child abuse and sexual exploitation. He stressed the importance of compliance with the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act (POCSO) and the Child Abuse Prevention and Treatment Act (CAPTA). He urged teachers, students and professionals to report suspected abuse and emphasised the role of government agencies and NGOs in raising awareness and providing support to survivors of abuse.
Choudhary praised the contributions of the guest speakers and assured the audience that future programmes will focus on positive parenting, non-violent discipline and early detection of exploitation. Dr Sharma and Dr Gupta stressed the need for zero tolerance towards child abuse and praised GDCT for facilitating such educational initiatives. The programme concluded with a vote of thanks by Director Nehreer Khan.
