A new Finnish mafia member is born

The 2024 NHL Draft was loaded with talent looking to be drafted into one of the best hockey leagues in the world. Players from all over the world entered the draft, hoping to be called by one of the 32 teams in Las Vegas. The Stars had an interesting draft position this season, as they had their first draft pick compared to 2023. The Stars selected the best player available, first round, and that was Emil Hemming. Here’s more on the first draft pick and where he’ll be playing this season.

His junior club in Finland screwed Hemming. Hemming has a high scoring IQ and ended up on the fourth line because of all the talent on his team. He only had seven goals last season because of the limited ice time he was given. He wasn’t allowed to show that talent and was therefore dropped to the Stars in the first round. I wouldn’t be surprised if his new club promotes him to one of the top two lines and lets him shine this coming season.

The chances of Hemming playing in Dallas next season are 0.001%. The Barrie Colts drafted him and he will develop his game with the team in the upcoming season. This is the smartest way to develop his game quickly. He will get more top minutes with the Colts than if he stayed in Finland. There is no reason to rush his development in the short term. I am sure the Colts will provide progress reports to the Stars front office if they ask for them,

Hemming will have to get used to playing a lot of minutes each night while working on his offensive game. He has the potential to be on one of the Dallas Stars’ top lines in the future if he works hard and listens to his coaches. His great wrist shot will hurt the teams that passed him up in the first round. Hemming is still just 18 years old. However, he could rise through the ranks of the Finnish Mafia depending on how he plays in the Minors over the next few seasons.
