Anti-gang legislation goes to parliament today

Today, the House of Representatives will discuss the Anti-Gang Bill and other related legislative measures to tackle gang activity in the country.

The Anti-Gang Bill aims to prevent the formation of gangs, stop the recruitment of gang members and impose tougher penalties for gang-related activities.

Attorney General Sir Steadroy Benjamin stressed that the government was taking a proactive approach to tackling gang problems, citing input from various organisations and community members.

Government efforts, including the Prime Minister’s direct targeting of gang members, have already yielded promising results in reducing criminal activities involving young people.

There is broad support for these initiatives and residents support government efforts to address gang-related problems.
