‘KE committed to tackling theft despite resistance’ – Pakistan

KARACHI: K-Electric’s aggressive crackdown on theft across the city is being met with stiff resistance from the kunda mafia, who are blocking roads and disrupting the city to maintain their illegal connections instead of paying their outstanding bills.

In recent incidents in Gizri, Punjab Colony and nearby areas, organised groups of power thieves have gone to extreme lengths to undermine K-Electric’s efforts to remove illegal kundas from the load-space-free feeders.

During one such targeted operation in Punjab Colony, KE teams faced violent reprisals from armed assailants who attempted to stop the removal of kunda and held the personnel involved at gunpoint. The same defaulting customers staged protests in Gizri and Punjab Colony to forcibly restore power supply, which was in defiance of KE’s efforts to provide fair supply.
