RTL Today – Belgian and Luxembourg media report: Luxembourg Red Cross worker arrested on suspicion of human trafficking

A woman who worked for the Luxembourg branch of the Red Cross has been arrested on suspicion of involvement in human trafficking and sexual exploitation, it was reported on Thursday.

The employee in question is a Colombian who lives in Arlon and works for the Red Cross in Luxembourg.

She is said to have been the leader of one of the largest human trafficking networks in Europe and Belgium for the past two decades. Together with her partner and accomplices in Cali, Colombia, she is accused of luring people to Europe and then forcing them into prostitution.

The suspect was arrested as part of an international operation involving authorities from Colombia, Belgium, Spain and the United States.

Former colleagues said the woman had always made a good impression. Until 2018, the suspect also worked as a staff representative for the OGBL trade union at the Zeeman retail chain.

The story was confirmed by the Luxembourgish newspaper Luxembourgish Wort.

As always, the presumption of innocence applies until a verdict is passed.
