Heads of law enforcement agencies from 35 countries are in the Bahamas for the 26th Interpol Americas Regional Conference, where they will discuss strategies to combat transnational crime.

The three-day event began on Thursday and takes place at the Atlantis Resort on Paradise Island.

According to the Nassau Guardian, the conference will focus on the significant threat posed by transnational organised crime and the associated increase in violence.

According to Interpol President Ahmed Naser Al-Raisi, the conference will also focus on optimising the services Interpol offers and promoting better cooperation between member states.

Prime Minister Philip Davis, host of the conference, says the need for a united, coordinated approach to crime has never been greater.
