Turkish national arrested in Greece on charges of criminal gang formation

Greek authorities have arrested a 40-year-old Turkish national on suspicion of being part of a criminal gang operating in Turkey, according to a police statement released on Friday.

The arrest took place on Wednesday on the island of Chios, where the man was found with false Italian identification documents and an illegal firearm.

A raid on his home resulted in the seizure of a pistol and bullets, and an official investigation has been launched. The arrest marks a recent example of suspected criminal activity linked to Turkish gangs in Greece. Both countries, despite being NATO allies with historical tensions, have increased cooperation in recent months on security issues, among other things.
