Mangaluru, September 14: After a month-long lull, the illegal sand mafia has resumed digging on Pavoor Uliya Island. According to residents, on the evening of the 13th, more than 20 boats arrived on the island and started digging sand. This renewed activity continues despite repeated requests from local delegations urging the district administration to take permanent measures to prevent illegal digging on the island.

In response to the allegations, the Geology and Mining Department claimed that the footage of the excavation was outdated. However, the media challenged the department to provide evidence to support their claim. Meanwhile, the District Collector appointed a committee to investigate the incident, but the district administration is yet to release the report.

Despite these efforts, the sand mafia has resumed illegal digging on the island, underscoring the ongoing battle to curb this illegal activity.
