Legal group launches investigation into Biden-Harris administration over rise of dangerous Venezuelan gangs

Legal watchdog America First Legal is launching a series of investigations into the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) regarding violent foreign gang activity that poses a significant threat in a number of states.

In a press release, AFL pointed to recent reports and shocking footage from Aurora, Colorado, where an entire apartment complex was taken over by members of the Venezuelan gang Tren de Aragua (TdA). Armed members of the gang were seen freely patrolling the hallways of the building in a viral surveillance video from August 29 that took the country by storm.

Residents have also reported that gang members have committed serious trespassing, assault, illegal possession of weapons and other criminal activities.

The press release also referenced a recent incident in Chicago, when authorities were alerted to similar activity involving a residential building. Venezuelan gangsters were also involved in that 911 call. Later that week, on Thursday, September 5, 2024, authorities in western Wisconsin arrested a suspected member of Tren de Aragua on multiple domestic violence charges.

“These gang members would not be present if the United States had a secured southern border,” AFL wrote.

In response, the legal group has filed multiple requests for documents from DHS and the FBI related to the presence of the Venezuelan Tren de Aragua gang in Colorado, Illinois, and Wisconsin. AFL is also seeking documents related to contacts between state and federal law enforcement to “reveal any communications the Biden-Harris administration may have received regarding this increasing threat to public safety.”

“The Biden-Harris administration’s deliberate decision to open our borders to the world has allowed violent Venezuelan gangs to operate unchecked in American communities. The crimes committed by these aliens are inherently preventable, but this administration has chosen to ignore public safety and prioritize the importation of hundreds of thousands of illegal aliens,” said Gene Hamilton, Executive Director of America First Legal.

“If Border Czar Harris were serious about eliminating the threat of foreign gang activity in the United States, she would secure the border and deport illegal aliens from the United States. It’s that simple.”
