‘Iisang Nasyon, Iisang Aksyon: Tapusin ang OSAEC Ngayon’ Summit 2024

President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. graces the ‘Iisang Nasyon, Iisang Aksyon: Tapusin ang Online Sexual Abuse and Exploitation of Children (OSAEC) Ngayon’ Summit 2024 at New World Makati Hotel in Makati City on September 16, 2024.

The summit is organized by the International Justice Mission (IJM) in partnership with the Department of Justice – Inter-Agency Council Against Trafficking (DOJ-IACAT) and the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG). The summit aims to break cultural barriers to reporting OSAEC cases and officially launch a nationwide campaign to encourage local reporting and community engagement.

In line with these efforts, the campaign follows the Chief Executive’s directive issued earlier this year, calling for stronger law enforcement initiatives to rescue victims, prosecute offenders and promote a comprehensive national strategy against OSAEC.

Furthermore, the Summit emphasizes the crucial role of LGUs in addressing OSAEC, despite the progress made in adopting measures and guidelines such as Executive Order No. 67, which established the Presidential Office for Child Protection.

The 2023 Scale of Harm study by IJM and the University of Nottingham Rights Lab found that approximately half a million Filipino children, or one (1) in 100, were victims of online sexual exploitation in 2022, underscoring the need for grassroots efforts to promote reporting of crimes.
