Activities:

The intern will conduct research, prepare background and support materials in the context of the UNTOC Review Mechanism, assist in drafting correspondence, and perform other tasks as requested. Day-to-day responsibilities will vary and will be tailored to the individual’s background. The intern will perform the following tasks, including, but not limited to:

  • Assist in conducting legal research on States’ efforts to implement the United Nations Convention against Transnational Organized Crime, by selecting relevant material, analyzing information and presenting findings for internal review;
  • Support the team in collecting and analyzing data;
  • Assist in reviewing relevant legal documents, papers or other materials; identify important issues, similarities and inconsistencies;
  • If necessary, prepare draft correspondence to the States Parties;
  • Support the team in intergovernmental processes in the field of transnational organized crime, in particular in relation to the review mechanism of the United Nations Convention against Transnational Organized Crime and its protocols.
  • Performing other tasks and activities as requested.

Main requirements:

  • Applicants must meet one of the following requirements:
    • (a) be enrolled in or have completed a postgraduate course (second university degree or equivalent, or higher);
    • (b) be enrolled in, or have completed the final academic year of, a first university degree (at least a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent).
  • A completed degree in law or a related field is required, preferably with a specialization in criminal law.
  • Applicants for the UN Internship Programme do not need to have professional work experience. However, a field of study that is closely related to the type of internship you are applying for is required.
  • Applicants should have a good knowledge of standard software applications, in particular MS Word, MS PowerPoint, MS Excel and MS Teams.
  • Applicants must have knowledge of designing surveys and polls and be able to collect and analyze data.
  • English and French are the working languages ​​of the United Nations Secretariat. Fluent speaking and writing of English is required for the internship. Knowledge of an additional official UN language is a plus. Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian and Spanish are the official languages ​​of the United Nations Secretariat.
