Colorado State Patrol Releases Video of Officer Ambush on US 36

Colorado State Patrol officials released body camera footage Monday of the shooting that left Corporal Tye Simcox dead on U.S. 36 near Westminster.

Simcox was parked between two concrete guardrails in the median of the freeway on the afternoon of Sept. 7 when Victor Anthony De Santiago, 32, slowed down and began shooting at Simcox from his truck, according to CSP officials.

Simcox was shot in the arm and quickly got out of his patrol car. He grabbed a rifle from the front seat and returned fire. The footage shows him fatally wounding De Santiago.

The corporal was taken to Denver Health by an attending officer and is currently recovering.

“I am incredibly blessed to be alive and am so grateful for everyone’s support and prayers,” Simcox said in a statement released by the State Patrol.
