Today Huw Edwards breathes free air, but the suffering of his victims continues

The misery for Huw’s victims continues

FROM the BBC’s top newsreader to a convicted paedophile sex offender… Huw Edwards’ latest public shaming was handed to him by a judge yesterday.

However, many will be wondering how the disgraced star managed to avoid jail, given the disgusting new revelations in court.

When a paedophile asked online if he wanted “naughty photos and videos” of a young person, Edwards said: “Go ahead.”

He paid a whopping £1,500 to a pervert who sent him 41 depraved images, including a video of a boy as young as seven.

They were both real victims of horrific sexual abuse: their suffering was clearly visible and their young lives had already been destroyed.

Edwards thought the images were “amazing.”

Not terrible, not awful. Amazing.

We have absolutely no criticism of the thugs who made online threats during the riots.

But many were locked up without hesitation, including one person who retweeted someone else’s post.

Yet Edwards, once a pillar of the establishment, was released after a six-month suspended sentence, which was suspended for two years.

He will not be on the sex offenders list for life, but only for seven years.

Eight out of ten pedophiles with images of child abuse avoid prison.

Huw Edwards is a manipulative pedophile – if The Sun hadn’t exposed him, he would have gone unnoticed

Why? Their crimes—Edwards’ crimes—are far from victimless.

They fuel a horrific global trade in child sexual exploitation.

And one can only wonder what further crimes the police might have uncovered if they had gotten their hands on all of Edwards’ equipment.

When he was arrested last November, he had already been suspended from the BBC for four months, during which time the phone he used to exchange messages with his paedophile friend had been seized.

And who knows what else?

The mother of the victim in our original story is adamant that the BBC criminal belongs in jail.

The family watched as their son, once a “normal, happy teenager”, became addicted to drink and drugs, fuelled by the star’s money.

When the BBC ignored their complaints, they came to us and we gave them a voice, but their trauma is still ongoing.

The corporation was remorseful yesterday. And rightly so.

We hope that other media figures who initially, without any knowledge of the matter, claimed Edwards was innocent and idiotically attacked The Sun will examine their conscience.

Was there willful blindness — by the police, his BBC employers and his media friends — to the true character of this once respected, household name?

Our thoughts now are with the victims of this grim scandal: the young man and his family about whom we first reported.

And the unknown children whose horrific sexual abuse so enthralled the BBC’s highest-paid journalist.

Today Edwards breathes free air.

But their suffering continues.

No one should forget that.
