Delhi BJP releases poster criticising Arvind Kejriwal, CM-Designate Atishi

Immediately after Arvind Kejriwal on Tuesday picked the only woman minister in his cabinet, Atishi, to succeed him as Delhi Chief Minister, the BJP lashed out at the duo, calling Atishi “Kejriwal’s puppet”. It released a poster depicting Atishi as a puppet controlled by Arvind Kejriwal with the strings of a puppeteer.

Delhi BJP president Virendra Sachdeva said Atishi was a reluctant Chief Minister. “Arvind Kejriwal has forced Atishi to be CM. Only the face has changed. Atishi will also have to answer to Kejriwal,” Sachdeva alleged. “AAP can change faces and give a makeover, but its leaders cannot change their habits. This makeover will not change anything,” he said.

Congratulating Atishi, Delhi BJP leader Manoj Tiwari accused Arvind Kejriwal of bringing Delhi to tears with his policies. “There are potholes on Delhi’s roads. Electricity and water bills are rising rapidly. Senior citizens are not getting their pensions. The rule of the tanker mafia continues. Atishi should now pay attention to all these issues,” he said. “Arvind Kejriwal got 9 years and 8 months. Atishi got three months. After that, the code of conduct will come into effect. I don’t want to politicize this. I just want to congratulate Atishi,” Manoj Tiwari added.

BJP leader Kapil Mishra accused the AAP of electing a leader to lead Delhi who had “no connection” with Anna Hazare’s India Against Corruption movement. He also accused Kejriwal of promoting “Naxal mentality” in Delhi. “Atishi’s family had tried to stop the hanging of terrorist Afzal Guru. Kejriwal is committing the sin of imposing Naxalite mentality in Delhi through the back door. Today, the Aam Aadmi Party is electing a CM who never had any connection with Anna’s movement and India Against Corruption. People of Delhi will never accept a Naxalite-communist Chief Minister,” Kapil Mishra posted on X.

What Congress said about Atishi’s appointment as prime minister

AAP’s INDIA bloc partner Congress also hit out at Atishi. Congress leader Udit Raj slammed the CM-designate. Udit Raj said she was working against her promises for the 2020 Delhi elections. “You are not delivering on what you have promised. You are only worried about winning the elections,” Udit Raj said, ABP News reported.

Though AAP and Congress are part of the INDIA bloc against the BJP at the Centre, the two are not allies in most states. The most intense rivalry between the two parties is seen in Delhi and Punjab.
