Akali Dal Youth Demands Resignation of Punjab Minister Over Rs 100 Crore Scam

Chandigarh, Sep 17 (SocialNews.XYZ) The Youth Akali Dal (YAD) on Tuesday staged a sit-in protest, broke police barricades and marched to the residence of Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann to demand the resignation of Education Minister Harjot Bains and suspension of his IPS wife Jyoti Yadav in the alleged cyber fraud worth Rs 100 crore.

The activists, led by YAD chairman Sarabjeet Singh Jhinjher, were remanded in custody even though the Prime Minister refused to meet them.

Speaking on the occasion, the YAD president said, “We have made it clear that the Special Investigation Team (SIT), which has been constituted to probe the Rs 100-crore cyber fraud in which serious defamation has been levelled against Harjot Bains and his wife Jyoti Yadav, is an eyewash. No police officer can investigate the role of a minister. We have demanded that the government initiate a Supreme Court-monitored inquiry into the matter as well as an Enforcement Directorate (ED) probe to establish allegations of money laundering.”

Jhinjher alleged that the activists were forced to stop the march due to the Prime Minister’s failure to take action in the matter. He said, “If the government continues to protect Harjot Bains and his wife, the YAD will ‘gherao’ the Prime Minister and all the ministers during their official tours in Punjab.”

Jhinjher said the Chief Minister walked away from the confrontation with the youth of Punjab and said, “We are not terrorists. We have come to your doorstep demanding appropriate action in the Rs100 crore cyber scam.

“We have also come to tell you that youth are dying every day from drug overdose and that your ministers and lawmakers are colluding with drug traffickers and preventing the police from taking action against the drug mafia.”

As the police did not allow the YAD activists to approach the Chief Minister’s residence, they tried to break the police cordon and even sat on the road and shouted slogans against the AAP government and the Chief Minister. They were then remanded in custody.
