Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs faces sex trafficking charges as federal charges become public following his arrest in New York City

SEAN “Diddy” Combs has been charged with human trafficking following a months-long federal investigation that saw him arrested Monday night in New York City.

The 54-year-old music mogul was held overnight after Homeland Security Investigations agents arrested him at the Park Hyatt Hotel in Manhattan.

The federal indictment detailing the charges was made public Tuesday during Combs’ arraignment.

Combs is charged on three counts in total: extortion, human trafficking and transportation of persons for the purpose of prostitution.

According to the indictment, Combs “abused, threatened, and coerced women and others in his environment to satisfy his sexual desires, protect his reputation, and conceal his conduct.”

The unsealed indictment alleges that Combs organized “Freak Offs” where he forced victims to have sex with sex workers.

“Freak Offs were elaborate sex shows that Combs organized, directed, masturbated to, and often electronically recorded,” prosecutors alleged.

The documents show that Combs allegedly arranged for the Freak Offs to transport sex workers internationally and across state lines. Sometimes the transports would last several days and involve multiple sex workers.

The charges allege that the killer provided drugs to victims during the Freak Offs to keep them “compliant and obedient.”

Victims of sex acts were given IVs to help them recover from the Freak Offs, the lawsuit alleges.

TARNISHED REPUTATION

The rapper’s reputation as a hitmaker has been tarnished over the past year by several sexual assault lawsuits, a violent surveillance camera showing him beating his ex-girlfriend and a federal investigation into sex trafficking.

HSI, the principal investigative arm of the Department of Homeland Security, handles cases involving transnational crime, including human trafficking, terrorism, and drug smuggling.

Combs’ attorney, Marc Agnifilo, told reporters that the musician “voluntarily moved to New York last week in preparation for these charges.”

He added that his client has “nothing to hide.”

Agnifilo described Combs as “a music icon, a self-made entrepreneur, a loving family man and a proven philanthropist who has built an empire over the past 30 years, adores his children and has been committed to improving the black community.”

Recent Lawsuits Against Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs

Diddy was hit with a wave of lawsuits in late 2023 and 2024 alleging sex trafficking and sexual abuse. He has denied all claims against him.

• November 17, 2023: Cassie, Diddy’s longtime girlfriend, sued him, claiming she endured “a cycle of abuse, violence and sex trafficking” until their relationship ended in 2018. Diddy and Cassie settled the lawsuit the day after it was filed.
• Diddy was hit with two more lawsuits a week after settling with Cassie.
• November 23, 2023: Joi Dickerson accused Diddy of drugging and raping her and filming the attack when she was a 19-year-old college student in January 1991.
• November 24, 2023: A second, unnamed plaintiff in a separate lawsuit alleged that Diddy and another man sexually assaulted her and a friend in 1990 or 1991 and then showed up at her apartment several days later to beat her.
• December 6, 2023: Diddy was sued again by an unidentified woman who alleged that he and two men raped her in 2003 when she was 17 years old.
• February 26, 2024: Rodney “Lil Rod” Jones, who helped produce Diddy’s most recent album, alleged that the mogul sexually harassed, drugged and threatened him from September 2022 to November 2023 while they were working together.
• May 21, 2024: Model Crystal McKinney accused Combs of sexually assaulting her after they met at a Men’s Fashion Week event in New York City in 2003. McKinney alleges that she was drinking alcohol and smoking marijuana with Combs and several of his coworkers when she took a hit on a joint that she claims was laced with another drug. McKinney alleges that she felt dizzy and Combs directed her to the bathroom, where he allegedly forced her to perform oral sex on him.
• May 23, 2024: April Lampros, 51, alleged in her lawsuit that she met Sean Combs in 1994 in New York City while attending the Fashion Institute of Technology. Combs is accused of drugging and raping Lampros at a hotel after promising to help mentor her in the fashion industry.
• July 3, 2024: According to TMZ, Adria English, a former porn star who went by the moniker Omunique, accused Diddy of helping her sex-trafficking in the early 2000s.

“He is an imperfect person, but he is not a criminal,” he added.

Since November of last year, Combs has faced ten lawsuits, nine of which directly accuse him of sexual abuse.

Combs became the subject of a months-long investigation by the HSI into sex trafficking earlier this year, culminating in large-scale searches of two of his properties in Los Angeles and Miami in March.

According to law enforcement, the federal investigation stemmed from many of the sexual abuse allegations in several civil lawsuits filed against the producer.

But the investigation would go much further, also including allegations of drug trafficking, money laundering and sex trafficking.

A lawyer for one of the alleged victims has spoken out.

Attorney Rodney Diggs, speaking on behalf of Grace O’Marcaigh, who is suing Combs and his son Christian, said: “The long-awaited arrest of Sean Combs is the first step in our clients’ efforts to get justice.

“We leave the criminal aspect of this case to the people and the legal system.

“In civil matters, we wait for the facts to emerge and ensure our clients get the justice they deserve.

“We also expect more victims to come forward. We knew this was coming. The evidence is very clear and it was only a matter of time.

“This is an important step toward justice for all of Mr. Combs’ victims, including my clients. Justice will prevail.”
