Adamawa’s former MP Elisha Abbo issues ultimatum over alleged sex tapes

Former lawmaker representing Adamawa North Senatorial District, Elisha Abbo, has issued a 72-hour ultimatum demanding a public rectification and apology over his alleged involvement in sex tapes.

The ultimatum follows the distribution of videos and an interview in which the senator was accused of sexual exploitation, distribution of intimate videos, revenge porn and blackmail.

In a letter written by Abbo’s legal representative, Odiyowvi Osusu, the former lawmaker alleged that the defamatory statements caused significant damage to his personal and professional reputation and misled the public.

He noted that the video in question was shared on September 4, 2024, on the “Naija Police: U” platform, while the interview was aired on YouTube the following day by TrustTV News.

He also requested that the retraction be distributed through the same platforms where the videos and interview were originally posted.

Failure to meet the deadline, the letter warns, will result in legal action seeking damages for defamation, an injunction preventing further publication, and a court-ordered correction and public apology.

The letter read in part: “Our client has instructed us to issue a demand and we hereby formally request that you publish or broadcast an unequivocal public retraction and apology on national television and in three national newspapers within 72 hours of receipt of this letter. The terms of this retraction are subject to approval by our firm and we expect you to get back to us within 24 hours of receipt of this letter.

“You are also expected to disseminate the retraction and apology on the same platforms where your interviews were disseminated. Unless we receive a satisfactory response from you within the timeframes stated above, our instructions are to initiate legal proceedings against you, without further recourse to you, for the following claims.”

Abbo indicated that his legal team is prepared to initiate legal proceedings if their demands are not met within the set timeframe.

He denied the accusation, asking: “How can you identify a person without seeing his face, his body and only parts of his legs, and you say it is Senator Abbo?”
