Police monitoring alleged GISB activities in Sarawak

KUCHING: The police are investigating and monitoring the activities of Global Ikhwan Service and Business Holdings (GISB) reportedly taking place in the state.

Sarawak police chief Datuk Mancha Ata said they have been monitoring their activities for some time.

“We are still monitoring and investigating the matter.

“We are also gathering intelligence because we have identified their activities and locations,” he said when met by reporters this morning.

To date, no arrests have been made and no police reports have been received in Sarawak.

Mancha added that Sarawak police are working closely with Bukit Aman in the investigation.

GISB is now at the centre of a police investigation after raids were carried out on 20 care homes allegedly linked to the group.

During last week’s major operation, ‘Op Global’, 402 local minors aged between one and 17 were rescued from alleged exploitation in Selangor and Negeri Sembilan.

According to police, the victims were subjected to various forms of exploitation and abuse, including sodomy.

Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Tan Sri Razarudin Husain told the New Straits Times (NST) on Saturday that GISB had been on the police watch list since 2011 and that the coordinated raids on the houses were the culmination of a six-month investigation to gather intelligence, build a case and formulate an action plan.

Razarudin also said that the Anti-Money Laundering Criminal Investigation (AMLA) Unit is investigating the finances of the private Muslim conglomerate.

GISB has since denied the allegations of child exploitation and sexual abuse.
