Migrant worker on UK cannabis plantation ridicules labour strategy for stopping boats

An Albanian migrant who travelled by small boat to work on a British cannabis farm has slammed Keir Starmer’s plan to “destroy” the drug trafficking gangs responsible for the Channel crossing as “impossible”.

When asked about his tactics to combat illegal migration, the prime minister consistently referred to his previous record on terrorism as head of the Public Prosecution Service.

But the migrant, who had to deal with smugglers to get to Britain, is not taking the plan to destroy the gangs seriously.

“I laugh at them. That’s not possible,” he told the Express.

He explained that in his experience it was extremely difficult to distinguish between a migrant and a trafficker even on the beaches of northern France.

“I don’t think it’s possible (to destroy the gangs). There are too many people (making the journey and) they can’t find the traffickers because they can’t see who’s who,” he added.

“There are too many traders, not just two or three, hundreds. You might find one, but not (all).”

The migrant indicated that his interactions with the French authorities also indicated that they were not prepared to adequately address the problem.

“We were stopped by the French police on the way to the beach,” he said.

“They didn’t say anything, they just destroyed the boat. We went back (to the camp and waited) and then we took another boat.

“(Another) time they found us under the trees because we were afraid of them and they just told us to go.

“People who keep an eye on (the beaches) can stop everything (but don’t).”

He believes that the French police want the migrants to leave and that they can do this by taking a rowing boat to Britain.

He added: “If you don’t want immigrants in your place, you let them go from the UK to France. They want to clean the place up and they let them (leave).”

All this gives the impression to Albanian citizens that rowing boat travel from the UK to France will continue indefinitely.

“I don’t think it will ever stop from experience,” he concluded.

In response to the migrant’s claims, a Home Office spokesperson said: “Criminal gangs are getting away with undermining our border security and endangering lives.

“Our new Border Security Command will implement a major overhaul and enhancement of law enforcement efforts against smugglers and human trafficking gangs to improve our border security.

“State-of-the-art technology and enhanced intelligence capabilities will ensure that we use every tool at our disposal to dismantle this despicable trade.”
