Another 7 GISB members arrested in human trafficking investigation

KUALA LUMPUR — Police have arrested seven more people linked to Global Ikhwan Services and Business (GISB) Holdings to assist in a human trafficking investigation.

According to Harian Metro, among those arrested is another son of the company’s chairman and CEO, Datuk Nasiruddin Mohd Ali.

Bernama meanwhile reported that the seven arrested are aged between 32 and 35 and that they are all members of a GISB youth group called Remaja Pembela Ummah (RPU).

Inspector General of Police Tan Sri Razarudin Husain said the seven have been remanded in custody until September 26.

“The Bukit Aman Criminal Investigation Department (CID) team made arrests at four locations from 11pm last night to 4.07am today.

“Interrogations are still ongoing and the suspects are currently being held at the Shah Alam Centralised Detention Centre. The case is being investigated under Section 12 of the Anti-Trafficking in Persons and Anti-Smuggling of Migrants Act 2007,” Razarudin told Bernama.

Article 12 concerns trafficking in persons other than minors for the purpose of exploitation. Convicted offenders can be sentenced to up to 15 years in prison and a fine.

The arrests took place in Temerloh, Pahang; Port Dickson, Negeri Sembilan; and Pengkalan Chepa, Kelantan, according to Harian Metro.

Razarudin said the youth group claims to represent the youth in GISB and that Islam is a way of life through engagement with local and international communities through various activities.

Razarudin appealed to former followers of GISB and members of the public with relevant information to come forward and assist authorities in their investigation into alleged abuse, neglect and sexual misconduct at the charities run by the company.

“Former followers of GISB who have had similar experiences or have information are urged to come forward. We will also contact the Department of Islamic Development Malaysia (Jakim) regarding GISB’s activities and investigation,” he added.

Yesterday, PDRM arrested 24 key figures linked to GISB, including the company’s top management, during operations in Kedah and the capital under Op Global, bringing the total number of arrests to 31.

On September 11, Bukit Aman CID raided 20 charities linked to GISB in Selangor and Negeri Sembilan, rescuing 392 minors aged 1 to 17.

Health checks on 392 rescued children revealed physical and emotional abuse, with 13 suspected cases of sodomy.

It is also suspected that the children are being exploited for work and forced to sell products.

To date, four GISB members have been charged: three with child sex crimes and one with criminal harassment of a former member who filed a police report against the company. – September 20, 2024
