Excise Deptt introduces new SOPs to tackle agent mafia and improve vehicle registration process

ISLAMABAD, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News – Sep 20, 2024) The Islamabad Excise and Taxation Department has issued new Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for vehicle registration and transfer to improve public services and curb the influence of agent mafias.

These measures are part of an effort to reduce the influence of intermediaries and agents and provide easier access to services for the public, the ICT management spokesperson said.

According to the new guidelines, if the vehicle owner is unable to visit the Excise Department for registration or transfer, he will have to issue an authorisation letter or provide biometric authentication. This can be done by registering the name and ID card number of the person who will handle the process on his behalf.

In addition, biometric verification of the recipient of the registration card is now mandatory, even if the owner does not collect the registration card in person.

Under the new Door Step Policy, Islamabad Excise Office has also introduced a home or office service for vehicle registration and transfer. Citizens can now avail these services without having to come to the office, making the process easier.

The Excise Department mobile bus service is available in various markets, parks and major highways in Islamabad. This initiative is aimed at bringing the department’s services closer to the people.

For those who prefer to manage their affairs online, the Excise Department has made it possible to register vehicles via the online portal, making the process even easier.

In addition, the Excise Department has urged citizens to ensure that they receive the correct documentation when registering or transferring a vehicle. A ticket is issued upon registration and transfer, which lists all government fees paid. To inquire about services or arrange for home services, citizens can contact the department’s helpline at 051-111-383-383. Assistance is available on weekdays between 8:00 am and 4:00 pm.

Meanwhile, at a recent performance meeting chaired by Director General (DG) Irfan Memon, key issues and improvements within the department were discussed.

The meeting was attended by the Director of Excise and other officials. During the meeting, a briefing was held on the new Challan App, which is aimed at improving enforcement and monitoring within the department.

The department also reviewed measures against vehicles with unauthorized license plates and illegal black-tinted windows. Tackling illegally used blue beacons was another topic of discussion, as were efforts to provide services to citizens more efficiently.

DG Memon stressed the importance of ensuring that citizens receive license plates promptly and that actions against vehicles with fancy plates continue. He also called for an increase in road blocks in key areas of the city to improve enforcement of these new rules.

Citizens are encouraged to utilise the new facilities and follow the guidelines to ensure a smoother process of vehicle registration and transfer in Islamabad.
