Miami Beach security catches mail thief stealing from multiple buildings – NBC 6 South Florida

Several residents contacted NBC6 after a man was caught breaking into a Miami Beach building twice, with multiple photos and videos showing him stealing people’s mail.

Surveillance footage clearly shows a man breaking down the front door of 899 West Avenue in Miami Beach. The video, taken at 2 a.m. on Sept. 15, shows a man stealing mail and then leaving the building.

On Friday at 12:30 a.m., the man’s black SUV was spotted parked across the street from the apartment building.

Surveillance footage shows him breaking in again, breaking into mailboxes and stashing away anything he can find.

A few moments later he is seen casually leaving the premises.

“I definitely feel like it was premeditated and that we were being watched and that he was a criminal of opportunity,” said Mark, a 30-year resident. “I think he was waiting for it.”

Several residents who spoke to NBC6 were shocked.

“It is a concern. We are all on high alert,” said Rosie Ciavolino, who has lived in the building for 10 years.

Some were alarmed.

“Feeling vulnerable and violated,” Mark said.

Others, like Maria Gonzalez, who has lived in the building for 40 years, want justice to be done by finding this thief.

“I hope someone catches him soon,” she said.

And it’s not the only building he’s targeted. A resident of a building a block away shared photos with NBC6 of open mailboxes on Sept. 6. The man looks similar to the man in this week’s robberies.

“We just want to get this guy,” Rosie said.

Miami Beach police confirmed Friday that they are actively investigating the case.
