Xbox Game Pass users are threatening to cancel their subscriptions: "Worst month in Game Pass history"

Some Xbox Game Pass subscribers on Xbox One, Xbox Series S, and Xbox Series X are threatening to cancel their subscription service after what they are deeming to be the “worst month in Game Pass history.” That may sound like a hyperbolic statement, but that would suggest it’s unusual, which it isn’t. Not only was September light on big additions, it was also light on day one games. Meanwhile, some of the most compelling games added were PC-only, leaving console players — who pay more — out in the cold. Making matters worse is that the subscription service lost better games than it added this month.

The selection of games will vary depending on taste, but generally speaking the biggest new games this month are: Frostpunk 2 (PC only), Age of Mythology: Retold (PC only), Republic of the RiderAnd War groove 2These are definitely not headline games, two of them are PC-only and three of them are strategy games, a rather niche genre.

Meanwhile, on the last day of the previous month Atomic Heart left. This was followed by Payday 3 And Slime Rancher 2 and more halfway through the month. That’s not all. There are 10 more games to go before the end of the month, including Gotham Knights, Running hero, The walking dead, Valheimand a Warhammer 40k game. This means that Xbox Game Pass lost 16 games in September and only added seven games, none of which were added to the standard tier of the subscription service.

As you might expect, all of this has left Xbox Game Pass subscribers — especially on console — pretty unhappy, with some even threatening to cancel their subscriptions after this month.

“Yeah this shit just isn’t worth it anymore, I’m about to cancel my subscription,” one subscriber wrote on Reddit. “Ugh.. haven’t really been enjoying Game Pass lately. Thank god for Mafia “Because it’s been a while since I’ve been this excited about an upcoming game,” adds a second subscriber.

A third subscriber added: “Worst month in Game Pass history. I didn’t care for any of these titles at all. And even if I did, what’s with all these strategy, RTS games? This month had zero variety. And they’ve been sitting on that Activision-Blizzard inventory for way too long.”

Of course, it’s worth noting that Tokyo Game Show is happening later this month, from September 26th to 29th. It’s possible that there will be some surprise additions during the show. If that doesn’t happen, Xbox Game Pass may lose some subscribers.
