New Homeland Security Fact Sheet Shows Illegal Immigration Increased Again in August

A new fact sheet from Republicans on the House Homeland Security Committee has been released showing that there were nearly 159,000 encounters nationwide in August, with more than 107,000 of those on the southwest border. That’s an increase of more than 3 percent from July’s numbers on the southwest border.

The increase under the Biden-Harris administration is staggering compared to the Trump administration. The number under the Biden-Harris administration now stands at more than 10.3 million, compared to 3.1 million from fiscal years (FY) 2017-2020 combined, Republicans said. And that number for the Biden-Harris administration doesn’t include the estimated two million known escapes recorded since the start of fiscal year 2021.

“Monthly encounters at border crossings alone have topped 90,000 since February 2023,” the Republicans wrote. “Since January 2023, more than 1.3 million inadmissible aliens have been granted entry through the illegal CBP One and the Cuban, Haitian, Nicaraguan, and Venezuelan (CHNV) mass release programs that President Biden and his ‘border czar’ Vice President Harris created.”

“Since the program began, approximately 530,000 Cubans, Haitians, Nicaraguans, and Venezuelans have been released en masse under the government’s CHNV Provisional Program at border crossings,” the Committee continued. “388 illegal aliens on the terrorist watch list have been apprehended between the southwestern and northern border crossings since FY21.”

In late July, Vice President Kamala Harris attempted to pose as a tough immigration official, apparently in an effort to deflect harsh criticism of her as President Biden’s supposed “border czar” as illegal immigration soared to unprecedented levels.

“In this campaign, I will proudly pit my record against his every day of the week, including on immigration,” she boasted, then went on to brag about her record as California’s attorney general. “I walked with police officers through underground tunnels between the United States and Mexico at that border. I went after international gangs, drug cartels, human traffickers who were coming into our country illegally. I prosecuted them in case after case, and I won.”

As America First Legal, which launched an investigation into Harris’s history in California government between 1990 and 2017, noted: “As California’s attorney general, Kamala Harris interfered with the enforcement of federal immigration laws. She even defended San Francisco’s sanctuary city ordinance and opposed California’s participation in the federal Secure Communities program (a program that allowed ICE to deport criminal aliens from local communities).”
