KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia’s top police official has again denied claims that senior police officers shielded GISB Holdings (GISB) during an investigation into the company.

“These allegations are not true,” police inspector-general Tan Sri Razarudin Husain told the New Straits Times.

He was responding to claims on social media that a former senior police officer had links to GISB leaders.

The Telegram post included a photo of the now-retired police officer with GISB leaders.

NST has contacted the retired officer in the photo.

Razarudin today called the claims “malicious and baseless”.

“Our committed employees are committed to ensuring that investigations into the company are conducted in a transparent, fair and thorough manner.”

He said police have discovered other social media posts claiming former senior officers protected GISB.

Razarudin said police should be given the space to investigate and bring to justice anyone who breaks the law.

“First we were criticized for being overzealous, then we were blamed for supposedly protecting the company.”

“We hope the public can give us some time to thoroughly investigate this matter.”

GISB was at the center of police investigations after 20 nursing homes allegedly run by them were raided on September 11, rescuing 402 children.

Later screenings of the children revealed that many of them had suffered physical and emotional injuries. During the investigation, police also revealed that 13 of the children had also been sodomized.

GISB has since denied the allegations of child exploitation and sexual abuse.

Yesterday, Razarudin said the investigation into the company could lead to action under the Security Offences (Special Measures) Act (Sosma).
