Agra police defame Uttar Pradesh govt’s image, will raise issue with CM Yogi: BJP MLA

New Delhi, Sep 24 (SocialNews.XYZ) BJP MLA Girraj Singh Dharmesh, from Agra Cantonment, on Tuesday opened a front against the police and levelled serious allegations over their functioning. He alleged that instead of maintaining law and order, they were conniving with criminals and providing them protection.

Speaking to IANS, the BJP MP said he would discuss the issue with Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and make him understand how the police are protecting criminals and other miscreants.

“In Agra, there is no proper police commissioner. Instead, we have a ‘commission rate’ where senior officers and assistant commissioners provide protection to the land mafia and other criminals,” he alleged.

The MLA indicated that he planned to discuss these issues with CM Yogi Adityanath. He said, “I will meet him soon to present my findings, which I have recorded in a letter.”

Dharmesh also claimed to have evidence of misconduct by several police officers. He wants to present this evidence to the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh.

He also highlighted a worrying trend: the so-called Non-Bailable Warrants (NBW) were revoked soon after arrests, while dedicated BJP workers were jailed on serious charges.

He further alleged that many criminals, including rapists and land mafiosi, were acquitted due to inadequate police deployment in court.

He referred to a recent incident at the Chatta police station, where he said a person arrested under the NBW was detained but released within two hours.

“Who authorized this release? This raises serious questions about police accountability,” he said.

The Commissionerate system, which was implemented in Agra on November 25, 2022 by CM Yogi Adityanath, was meant to improve police effectiveness. However, concerns remain over its functioning, especially after high-profile incidents of police misconduct.

Dharmesh, known for his outspoken stance against corruption, had earlier warned of irregularities in the Agra Smart City project, specifically targeting Nodal officer RK Singh for alleged financial misconduct.

Despite his efforts, he reports that the Uttar Pradesh government has not taken any substantive action on these complaints.

As these allegations develop, the Agra police and local government are likely to face increased scrutiny over their handling of crime and corruption in the region.
