Nigerian Islamic singer Rukayat Gawat has died

A popular Nigerian Islamic singer, Rukayat Gawat Oyefeso, has died.

Her death was confirmed on Tuesday morning by Ilorin-based cleric Alfa Aribidesi At-Tawdeeh via his official Facebook page.

Jubril Aawat, a media aide to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State, also posted a terse tweet on X, in which he said: “Verily, we belong to Allah, and verily, to Him we shall return. Q 2 V 156.”

Rukayat was known for her engaging voice, which appealed to many people in the Muslim community.

No further details have been released about her death.
