US Treasury Department imposes sanctions on chain of ice cream parlors, pharmacy with ties to Sinaloa cartel – LocalNews8.com

Associated Press

MEXICO CITY (AP) — The U.S. Treasury Department has imposed sanctions on a chain of Mexican ice cream parlors and a local pharmacy that drug traffickers use as investments. Mexican drug cartels often use proceeds from international drug trafficking to set up businesses, pouring money into everything from fraudulent timeshares to restaurants to launder money. The sanctions come days after the U.S. rejected accusations by Mexico’s president that the U.S. was partly responsible for an upsurge in the cartel war that has left at least 30 dead in Sinaloa.
