Federal authorities have arrested the son of the person believed to be involved in the failed assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump in Florida on suspicion of possessing child sexual abuse photos.

Oran Routh was arrested this week during a search of his Greensboro, North Carolina, home “in connection with an investigation unrelated to child exploitation,” according to a court document filed by an FBI official.

According to court documents, investigators seized numerous electronic devices and discovered hundreds of files that show child sexual abuse. He is accused of obtaining and possessing two sets of material that relate to child sexual abuse.

“Oran Routh’s father is Ryan Wesley Routh, who is accused of attempting to assassinate Trump on a Florida golf course earlier this month. Ryan Routh has been charged with federal firearms offenses, but prosecutors have indicated that far more serious attempted murder charges are on the horizon. A federal judge agreed with Justice Department prosecutors Monday that Ryan Routh should remain in custody as he awaits trial in his case,” the Associated Press reported.

“Prosecutors have said Ryan Routh left a note detailing his plans to kill the former president and a handwritten list of dates and locations where Trump would appear in his car. The note with Routh’s plans was in a box he dropped off months earlier at the home of an unknown person who did not open it until after Ryan Routh was arrested, prosecutors said,” the outlet added.

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis said the Biden-Harris administration is not only not cooperating with state agencies investigating the latest assassination plot against former President Donald Trump, but that federal law enforcement is actively obstructing the state’s investigation.

In an interview Thursday with Fox News host Laura Ingraham, the two-term governor and former Republican Party presidential nominee in 2024, said state investigators were “baffled” by federal authorities when they tried to gain access to a location where the alleged attacker, Ryan Routh, 58, lay in wait for Trump as he played a round of golf at his course near Palm Beach last Sunday.

“I want to change the subject because we were relieved to hear that you’re conducting your own independent investigation in Florida into the second assassination attempt on President Trump,” Ingraham noted as she began her segment with DeSantis on Thursday. “My question to you tonight is, are the Feds cooperating with your investigation? Are you concerned that you’re not getting the information that you need?”

“The answer is no, they are not cooperating. Yes, I am concerned. I mean, for example, we were turned away. Our investigators were turned away when they even went to the fence outside of Trump International Golf Club in West Palm Beach,” DeSantis said.

“And so I think they’ve taken the position that they don’t want the state of Florida to get involved in this. But here’s the thing: There were multiple violations of Florida law in multiple jurisdictions. We’re thinking at least three judicial circuits. This man, Ryan Routh, has committed potential violations of Florida law,” he continued.

“So, we have an obligation to investigate. We have an obligation to file the appropriate charges, and we also have an obligation to inform the public as to how this happened, so I don’t expect them to cooperate,” the governor added. “I think they just took that position, and I think that’s unfortunate because even though I’ve been very clear, the state of Florida is going to investigate. You know, I haven’t challenged their right to investigate either. It’s the federal government that had him in protective custody as a presidential candidate.

“But let’s do this. So hopefully that tone changes. But I can tell you right now, Laura, we have not had a very receptive, responsive response” from the Biden-Harris administration, DeSantis said.

Later in the interview, Ingraham and DeSantis discuss Routh’s tangled history and what led him to plan an assassination attempt on Trump.

“How did he get to Florida? What was the path that this man took to end up in those bushes, where he’s trying to assassinate the former president of the United States and current Republican candidate?” DeSantis said.

“How did that happen? And we haven’t gotten any answers about Butler,” Pennsylvania, the site of the first assassination attempt on Trump in July, the governor continued. “We haven’t gotten any answers about things like the Las Vegas shooting many years ago.

“So part of the investigation that our people are doing is they are providing evidence that they find of motives, evidence of his associations, evidence of his beliefs. I think it’s very important that the public gets the real story on this,” he said.
