How Johnny Depp Accidentally Enraged a Mafia Boss in Black Mass

Spoiler alert: This article contains plot spoilers for Black Mass (2015). When Johnny Depp took on the role of gangster James Bulger in the 2015 film Black Masshe could not have imagined that he would have to worry about angry gangsters in addition to the usual crop of critical film critics. It turns out that everyone is a critic. Director Scott Cooper was more aware of the pitfalls of putting powerful madmen like Bulger on eggshells, lest he embarrass the man who was on the FBI’s Most Wanted list and once called Alcatraz home. We’re not sure if Depp ever received any nasty letters from prison, but James Bulger wasn’t the kind of man you’d want as an enemy or confidant.
