Former Orillia Aquatic Supervisor Charged in Connection with Historical Sex Research

The Orillia Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has arrested and charged one person with multiple child luring and other child-related sex offences.

On September 19, 2024, the Orillia OPP received information about a historical incident involving sexual abuse and child luring. Police were notified in 2021 that the suspect offered alcohol to a juvenile in exchange for explicit images. At the time, the suspect was an Aquatic Supervisor at a recreation center in Orillia.

On September 23, 2024, members of the Orillia OPP, with the assistance of the Child Sexual Exploitation Unit, executed a search warrant at a residence in the City of Orillia.

As a result of this investigation, Manuel Marroquinn-Ramirez, 43, of Orillia, has been charged with:

  • Luring a person under 18 years of age by telecommunications – three charges
  • Communicating with someone for the purpose of obtaining sexual services
  • Sexual exploitation
  • Sexual abuse
  • Possession of child pornography
  • Sale or distribution to a person under the age of 19
  • Knowingly providing alcohol to a person under the age of 19

The suspect was being held pending a bail hearing.
