PETALING JAYA:

According to police inspector Razarudin Husain, the properties of Global Ikhwan Services and Business Holdings (GISBH) in Sabah and Sarawak are no longer operational.

According to Bernama, the police have held a meeting with government agencies involved in the investigation into GISBH to assess their current activities in Sabah and Sarawak.

GISBH is under investigation for child abuse, sexual abuse, human trafficking and deviant Islamic teachings, among other things.

The outcome of the meeting revealed that the sites associated with GISBH in Sabah and Sarawak have been closed and are no longer operational.

he was quoted as saying:

He said police would continue to monitor the locations to ensure those involved are identified and, if necessary, brought to justice.

The meeting was attended by the Ministry of Health, the Department of Islamic Development, the Department of Social Affairs and the Department of National Registration.

During raids last week in Melaka and Kelantan on sites linked to GISBH, hundreds of items related to the teachings of Al-Arqam, a sect declared deviant by the National Fatwa Council in 1994, were discovered.

GISBH previously indicated that it had shed its former image as a business arm of Al-Arqam and was now positioning itself as a multinational company.

Meanwhile, the Kota Bharu Municipal Council (MPKB) in Kelantan has confirmed that 19 companies run by GISBH in the state capital are no longer operating.

According to Bernama, MPKB president Anis Hussein said the properties include hotels, convenience stores and bakeries, adding that they are believed to have been closed following the arrest of GISBH’s top brass.

So far, more than 300 people, including senior management of GISBH, have been arrested following police raids on the group’s premises across the country.

On Tuesday, Razarudin said 572 children and teenagers had been rescued from GISBH-linked care homes after they were suspected of being exploited by the group. They were suspected of being victims of abuse and sexual exploitation.

Razarudin is also said to have stated that at least 13 children were sodomized or taught to sexually abuse others.

In a statement, Razarudin suggested that the relevant authorities take action by conducting raids and seizing the properties under the Sharia penal laws of the respective states and Section 16A of the Care Centres Act of 1993. – FMT
