DOJ: Colonie man pleads guilty to child abuse

COLONIE, N.Y. (NEWS10) — A Colonie man pleaded guilty Wednesday to sexual exploitation of a child, according to the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ). Thomas Berrington, 33, faces 15 to 60 years in prison.

Berrington admitted that between June 2023 and January 2024 he repeatedly sexually abused a minor under the age of nine for child abuse images and videos in this guilty plea. His sentencing is scheduled for January 30.

In addition to the prison sentence, Berrington will serve five years to life probation and a fine of up to $250,000. He must also pay restitution to the victim, surrender the device he used to commit the crime and register as a sex offender.
