Lawyer Seeking Trump’s Arrest Denounces MAGA Rep’s ‘Racist’ Tirade – DNyuz

Representative Clay Higgins, the MAGA congressman from Louisiana, walked back his since-deleted social media post on Thursday, saying Haitian migrants are “thugs” who “eat pets.” But the lawyer representing Haitians affected by the viral pet-eating conspiracy says he doesn’t believe it.

“It is a weak and pathetic excuse for naked racism and xenophobia,” Subodh Chandra told the Daily Beast. Chandra represents the Haitian Bridge Alliance, which has filed criminal charges against citizens in Springfield, Ohio and is seeking the arrest of Donald Trump and JD Vance.

“It’s bad enough that Higgins is a racist, but he is also a threatening racist who vows to take illegal action against people who are here legally,” Chandra said.

Higgins caused an uproar in Congress on Wednesday when he tweeted: “These Haitians are wild. Eating pets, vudu, dirtiest country in the Western Hemisphere, cults, slapstick gangsters… but damned if they don’t all feel sophisticated right about now, and file charges against our President and Vice President.”

He ended his vitriol by saying, “All these criminals better get their minds right and leave our country before January 20.”

The Louisiana Republican deleted the comment shortly after posting it and, while he did not apologize, he told reporters Thursday: “You never want to intentionally hurt anyone’s feelings, and that post was for Haitian gangs, you know?” He suggested that he did not mean to “offend Haiti as a country, not at all.”

The criminal charges against Trump and Vance include disrupting public services, making false claims and making aggravated battery. Chandra, the group’s lawyer, said he plans to add another charge – which is causing panic – to the filing before Friday.

Trump and Vance’s viral claims sowed chaos in Springfield, Ohio. Schools, businesses, medical centers and city hall were forced to close due to bomb threats. The state’s Republican governor condemned claims that Haitian migrants in Springfield ate dogs and cats like “garbage.”

Trump infamously claimed during his debate against Kamala Harris that those Haitians in Springfield “ate the dogs” and “ate the cats.” They eat, they eat the pets of the people who live there.

Higgins posted his anti-Haitian rant on Wednesday in response to news that the Haitian group represented by Chandra had filed charges against Trump and Vance. He deleted it hours later.

Democrats tried to censure Higgins over Wednesday’s post, but Republicans blocked the move on the last day of the session until after Election Day.

Higgins was at the Capitol on Thursday as a member of the House of Representatives task force investigating the July assassination attempt on Trump.
