Pregnancy Aid News – Abortion Pills: The Latest Illegal Import To Flood Into The US

The American Life League report exposes America’s new black market for do-it-yourself abortion drugs

(ALLThe American Life League’s deep dive into the emerging abortion pill industry shows that the federal government is enabling cartel-like networks to illegally widely distribute the do-it-yourself medication abortion combo, mifepristone and misoprostol. The Food and Drug Administration’s 2023 elimination of personal regulations on obtaining the drugs and the United States Postal Service’s failure to investigate the illegal distribution of these drugs through the mail allows it to expand unchecked . A new report from American Life League, Beneath the Surface: Exposing the Abortion Pill Drug Cartelreleased on September 25, 2024, chronicles a network modeled after notorious drug cartels, fueling a growing epidemic of unlimited, self-managed abortions that rivals America’s deadly drug crisis.

Drug overdose deaths in the United States exceeded 107,000 in 2023, while more than six times that number of children were killed by do-it-yourself abortion. There has been an avalanche of political concern about the vast quantities of fentanyl, cocaine, heroin, methamphetamine and even cannabis flowing freely into the United States through Mexican cartels. Little attention has been paid to the trade in pills used in chemical abortions, which are flying across the border into America from abroad in staggering quantities.

“Women across America have access to these pills at an astonishing rate, despite the increased protections for newborn children that many states have implemented since the fall of World War II. Roe v. Wade” noted Katie Brown, national director of the American Life League. “Clearly the FDA has dropped the ball on this. As the government agency charged with monitoring drugs coming into this country, they have failed. And where is the USPS? The post office is supposed to check packages for illegal items, yet black market abortion drugs are shipped to every state.”

The American Life League’s investigation revealed an ongoing network that funnels this duo of abortion-inducing drugs from abroad to states where legal abortion bans are on the agenda.

Key findings inside Beneath the Surface: Exposing the Abortion Pill Drug Cartel involve:

  • Mexico-based Las Libres illegally shipped abortion pills onto the black market to US states and US territories that restrict abortion. This is one of many “Community Partner Networks” that do this.

  • Anyone can purchase these unregulated, non-prescription abortion drugs. They are marketed over the Internet to unverified customers from unauthorized, unvalidated suppliers, with no control over the quality, purity or suitability of the recipient.

  • Orders are secret and just as untraceable, while women seeking abortion pills through the mail are instructed how to send anonymous, cryptic emails through private search engines and surreptitious apps.

  • “Lie to your doctor” is the instruction Las Libres gives its voters, providing specific details on how to “conceal their abortion if they experience excessive bleeding and need medical attention.”

In March 2024, the Guttmacher Institute reported that medication abortion accounted for 63 percent of all abortions in the United States in 2023. The reported number of prenatal deaths from chemical abortion exceeds 642,000.

Brown wants to remind people that these illegal abortion pills are just one factor in the current disturbing trend toward do-it-yourself abortion.

“These unsupervised procedures – which they perform themselves without constant medical supervision – are incredibly traumatic and dangerous for women,” Brown explains. “Even legitimately distributed abortion pills come with an FDA warning about potentially fatal infections. The Journal of Family Planning and Reproductive Health Care reports that many women who have taken these medications report extreme stress and trauma caused by expelling their dead baby’s body alone at home, after days of nausea, severe cramping and bleeding. The FDA and the USPS should care enough to intervene in this illegal importation of the dangerous DIY abortion drugs.”
