Perak MB will soon inform Sultan Nazrin about GISB’s activities

LENGGONG: Perak Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Saarani Mohamad will brief the Sultan of Perak, Sultan Nazrin Muizzuddin Shah, on updates regarding Global Ikhwan Services and Business Holdings (GISB) and their operations in the state.

Saarani said he is awaiting the full reports from the Islamic Religious Department of Perak (JAIPk), which will soon be presented to the Sultan of Perak.

“I cannot deny the existence of GISB in the state. I have requested JAIPk Director Harith Fadzilah Abdul Halim to collect all relevant information (on GISB operation in Perak)

“Coincidentally, the Sultan of Perak is the chairman of the National Council for Islamic Religious Affairs of Malaysia (MKI).

“So in Perak we are gathering information, and what I can say now is yes, GISB exists in Perak,” he told reporters after flagging off Malaysia’s largest motorcycle rally, Rimba Raid in Kampung Beng today.

Present were Deputy Home Minister Datuk Dr Shamsul Anuar Nasarah, who is also Lenggong MP, and State Tourism, Industry, Investment and Corridor Development Committee chairman Loh Sze Yee.

He added that reports were currently being prepared by JAIPk, the police, the Perak Welfare Department and other agencies.

Asked whether the GISB issue is critical or under control in Perak, Saarani, who is also chairman of the state’s Islamic Religious Commission, said he should wait for the full report.

Asked whether Perak would declare that GISB’s beliefs and teachings are deviant and un-Islamic, Saarani said he would wait for the decision of the National Fatwa Committee (NFC).

“We have to wait for any decisions from the NFC in general, and we will follow suit,” he said.

Saarani added that 55 children under the age of 12 were rescued yesterday and are currently in a care center under the Perak Welfare Department.

“The authorities rescued them from all districts of the state,” he said.

GISB was at the center of the police investigation after September 11 raids on 20 care homes allegedly operated by them resulted in 402 children being rescued.

Subsequent screenings of the children revealed that many of them had suffered physical and emotional injuries.

During investigation, police also revealed that 13 of the children were also sodomized.

GISB has since denied the allegations of child exploitation and sexual abuse.
